Always sun at the Turkish Riviera
 

The Turkish Riviera located at approximately a 4 hours flight, with as central city Antalya. De region at
the foot of the Tauros Mountains disposes of 360 days sun and an average temperature of 25 degrees.
The climate is during the summer season hot, but in the spring and autumn the weather is perfect.

The sea water temperature has an average of 22 degrees, but when I was there it has been a pleasant temperature
of 30 degrees. At the coast the five star resorts are dominating with their fantastic swimming pools and golf complexes.
Especially in Belek, forty kilometers away from Antalya, which once was known as a swamp area, the developments
went fast the past years. Wonderful hotel complexes and holiday parks, with stylish decorations, have raised from
the ground.  I have visited the five star hotels of Gloria Resorts, of the Turkish Millionaire Nuri Özaltin. What a luxurious environment!
He developed along the coast a 45-hole golf complex with an ultra modern club house. Because he has a special relation
with our country, our Michelin Star Chefs may cook here 17 weeks in row. It is and was pure Netherlands promotion
where strangers became friends of one and another.

Who could have ever thought our Dutch top chefs would have been used as export product, would have been
declared mad ten years ago. From French, Belgium and even a few British chefs it was known that they
were facing international recognition, but our chefs didn’t count, But have a look in Turkey, where our star
chefs are currently making furor at the Turkish Riviera in the touristic destination Belek. Our three colored (flag)
is waving there proudly. And the Turkish and foreign guests are spoiled as never before.
By creative and expertise working the three star chefs Cees Helder, Jonnie Boer and Sergio Herman
have created our reputation in the culinary world. This has as well been recognized by Herman Benckhuisen,
hotel manager of the in 2007 newly build Gloria Serenity Resort. Together with the in our country educated
hotel manager Yasemin Oruc and Hans Kerssemakers of the Gilden Academy, he developed the plan to have in
the period until half September seventeen star chefs from the Netherlands.

Back in Turkey it came clear that not all ingredients are available. Such as the special Dutch macaroon, could not be
found anywhere. “This counts as well for the brown rough sugar, ketjap manis and stilton cheese” which Benckhuisen
mentioned during my visit. As well as chefs towelcloths could not be found. “Due to hygiene reasons in Turkey they
use paper. Furthermore a thermo blender was not available. This we have brought from The Netherlands.” He smiled.
The idea is that after September ten Turkish chefs will complete a three months training with one of the Dutch star chefs.
The exchange can count on great support of the owner of Gloria Hotels & resorts, the millionaire Nuri Özaltin and his family.
The entrepreneur has grown due to the construction of water barrages in India, Turkey, Lebanon and Belarus,
the construction of tracks, bridges, districts, hospitals, water purification methods, hotels and 120 hectare greenhouses.
“Forty percent  of the cultivated harvest, such as tomatoes and peppers are sold as export to the Netherlands.
I adore that country and admire the performance. Always when I am flying to the United States, I stop in Amsterdam to stay at
the beautiful Amstel Hotel” mentioned Özaltin.

He has over 5000 employees. Recently he received the project to build the longest bridge (3 kilometers) over the Bosphorus
in Istanbul, followed by a highway from Istanbul to Izmir. Özaltin Holding is in this 1,2 billion euro project the main participant.
As well the company will construct a new barrage in Jordan for 800 million euro. Özaltin can be found, besides in their
Istanbul palaces, often in Gloria Serenity Resort the flagship among the hotels which is only 2 years old. It is part of the
2,1 million square meters complex where as well Gloria Golf resort and Glorıa Verde Resort are located. Although there
are staying thousands of guests, as mentioned by a thankful Hillary Clinton testified in a letter of her personally, it is noticeable
quiet. No wonder that the German travel organization (TUI) the Gloria Organisation has quoted as one of the best
hundred hotels since five years.

Everywhere you can find restaurants, swimming pools with sweet and salt water, extensive SPA’s, bars on piers in the sea,
a nightclub and even conference areas and a true theater with 2000 seats. At the golf course 550 people can play on a day.
Everything breaths luxury. Two million euro has been spend at flowers and plants, as well from our country. Sebahat Özaltin,
the wife of Nuri, is personally taking care on a good treatment. Money does not play a role. The starchef project costs approximately
a quarter of a million euro. And for next year it has been approved to have as well Belgian and Ducth star chefs participating
in the project. One of Nuri Özaltin friends is the Turkish/Dutch golf entrepreneur Ercan Oruç, whose daughter Yasemin works
for the hotel group. The manufacturers’ son came in 1974 to our country and stayed because of the “beautiful girls”,
he worked in the Hague in restaurant Bonjour and opened L’Express in de Amsterdam Utrechtsestraat and married with
Jolanda Schaapherder “a true Goois girl” (specific expression in Dutch when you come from the “Gooi” region).
The Turkish/Dutch couple spends their time regularly at Gloria Hotels and Resorts. And has spend a week here, understands why.
Friendly service, serenity, comfort (villa’s up to 10.000 euro per day!) and sport activities plus star dinners make life very convenient.
