Yedisu Dam and HEPP
The 24 MW Yedisu dam and hydropower plant are located on Peri River, a tributary of the Euphrates River within the borders of Bingöl, a province in eastern Türkiye. The Project scope encompassed the construction of a composite dam consisting of a water impermeable clay core rock-fill structure, and a concrete section that includes a spillway, and a power intake integrated to the powerhouse. The spillway has a peak-flood discharge capacity of 2,500 m3/sec and is equipped with three radial gates.
The dam is 37 meters from its foundation and has an overall length of 345 meters with a hydraulic height of 22 meters. The entire project involved the excavation of 1.2 million m3 of earth, and rocks for the main dam, and 650,000 m3 of rock fill embankment. The construction also involved massive cast-in-place concrete structures, chiefly the spillway, the power intake, the powerhouse, and a tail water structure, totaling more than 150,000 m3.
The powerhouse was furnished with three (3) vertical axis turbine-generator units of 8 MW each and has a total capacity of 24 MW. The project also covered a 170 kV switchyard and a 40-kilometer long, 170 kV high-voltage overhead power line to transmit the produced clean renewable hydroelectricity from the plant to the national grid.
