Upper Beyhan Dam And HEPP (Concession)
The Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) has issued licenses to Kalehan Energy Company to develop four (4) hydro-power projects in different districts along the lower stretches of the Murat River, the largest tributary of Euphrates River in Türkiye, for a combined installed capacity of 2,350 MW.
Upper Beyhan is the first large-scale hydraulic power station implemented on this river in Elazığ province by Kalehen Energy Company, a partnership formed by Özaltın and Cengiz Construction Companies with an equal number of shares. The project included the design, financing, construction, and management of the entire power station for an operation period of 49 years.
The dam features 1,350,000 m3 of roller compacted concrete (RCC) gravity structure, has an overall height of 97 meters, and a crest length of 365 meters. The powerhouse consists of three (3) vertical shaft Francis type water-turbine generator units rated at 183.5 MW each, and one (1) 31.6 MW eco-flow unit, making up a total capacity of 582.10 MW. It generates 1,740 million kilowatt-hours of renewable energy a year, which is fed to the State grid. The project enhances Türkiye’s energy security by utilizing the country’s renewable hydro resources.
