The project aims to construct emergency tunnels (safety tunnels) for the main tunnels along the high-speed train line route, within the scope of the Ankara-Sivas Railway Project, Yerköy-Sivas Section (Km:174+000-461+000). A contract has been signed between the General Directorate of Turkish State Railways (TCDD) and the Özaltın-Özkar Emergency Tunnels Construction Joint Venture Company on January 27th, 2020. The contract includes earthworks, construction of engineering structures and tunnels together with paving, and electromechanical works. Within the project’s scope, it is planned to construct 26 emergency tunnels, approximately 15,932 meters in length, along with their access roads. These emergency tunnels will serve as a means of ensuring passenger and technical crew safety in the event of distress situations such as fires, accidents or uncontrolled train stops in the main tunnels of high-speed train line. By utilizing the access roads constructed for the emergency tunnels, passengers and crew can swiftly and securely evacuate the tunnels and reach the nearest first aid station for prompt assistance.
